About Us

D.J. Directional Drilling Ltd. is owned and operated by Curtis and Christy Wideman and Rob and Karletta Munchinsky of Three Hills. “DJ" started up in 2011 and from our very first job, we have experienced a steady stream of business.

Rob had been looking to start his own business and saw the opportunity to be had in directional drilling. "I did some homework and was probing the idea of it." Rob got a chance to partner up with a friend who had his own drill rig, going out several times with him.  "I thought it could be a successful business and I enjoy being self-employed. I knew Curtis would be an excellent choice to work alongside me as a business partner; it would be a good fit."

Curtis has worked 15 years for Husky Oil and brings to the table a variety of related experiences, not least of which was managing five facilities, including planning and safety aspects.  His background is mechanics.

Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) is viewed as an effective, trench-less method of installing underground utility pipes, cables, or conduits with very little disturbance to the ground above, whether it be fully established shrubs or trees, driveways, paved roads, environmentally sensitive areas, or river crossings.  The tag 'horizontal' speaks for itself, as pipes or cables are laid out on a horizontal plane following a planned alignment to avoid damaging other underground utilities. The surface launched drilling rig has directional control (steering) while boring/drilling a pathway underground, guided by a 'walk-over' locating system.
